It’s the small things that drive me. The blood splatters on Project Lancer’s shield, the flow of Sylvanas’s cloak. This is why I joined Technical Animation. Using skills gained from 3D modeling I can contribute to the pipeline by focusing on small but important details such as fly aways, asymmetry, armor engravings, and cloth dynamics. As an artist, these elements can help bring a character to life.
Great story and great art help create great impact. But poor lighting ruins everything. Focusing on lighting for animation helps improve the subtle impacts when the audience sees an animation on screen. My recent work on a short film made me appreciate the role of a lighting artist, and how it helps make an animation pop on screen.
It’s these little things that make a project come to life. That’s what I live for. Great stories, great aesthetics, and great details. All of these get highlighted in cinematics, shows and movies. That’s where my path is currently taking me.
